Seniors Head Back to College

Seniors who prefer mental stimulation to daily rounds of golf are choosing to live in the nation's college towns. And colleges are responding by offering special seniors' programs and low-cost opportunities for seniors to audit their courses. The University of California, Berkeley, for instance, allows seniors to purchase a course auditing card for $25 and attend any summer session course with the instructor's permission.

A recent newspaper report named the following college towns as the top 10 in terms of quality of campus culture:

University of Texas at Austin; University of Colorado at Boulder; University of Vermont; University of California, Santa Cruz; Indiana University; University of Washington; University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill; University of Mississippi; University of Michigan; and Cornell University and Ithaca College, Ithaca, New York.

Developers are looking at the trend with a view toward building more senior communities near college towns
